President Donald Trump has declared the achievement of what he terms a “historic” agreement aimed at the complete disarmament of Hamas, marking what he sees as a significant advance toward resolving the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The announcement was made via social media, though there has yet to be an official confirmation from either the Israeli government or Hamas regarding the agreement.
According to Trump’s outline, the agreement envisions Hamas systematically dismantling its military assets, demolishing its tunnel network, and relinquishing its heavy weaponry, all under international supervision. In exchange, Israeli forces are to execute a phased withdrawal from Gaza. Additionally, an international stabilization force, along with a new Palestinian security administration, would assume responsibility for maintaining order in the region.
The proposed plan also stipulates a complete cessation of military actions prior to initiating the disarmament process. Subsequently, the dismantling of heavy weapons, tunnels, and military infrastructure would occur under the observation of an international verification committee. Reports suggest that Hamas has agreed to the framework in principle, with disarmament preparations slated to begin within 14 days, pending international approval and consensus among all involved parties. However, Israel has not yet officially backed this proposal.
Israeli officials have emphasized their requirement for the full disarmament and demilitarization of Gaza as a precondition for any broader agreement, asserting that the current proposal falls short of addressing their security concerns completely.
