Coldplay’s lead singer, Chris Martin, has clarified recent comments about Torontos Rogers Stadium, insisting he did not intend to criticize the new venue. His initial remarks on Monday, which referred to the stadium as this weird stadium in the middle of nowhere, were interpreted by some as a slight against the facility.
Speaking to the crowd during Coldplay’s Friday concert, the third of four performances at the newly constructed stadium, Martin expressed his sincere appreciation. He underscored that his intention was only to commend fans for navigating the travel challenges to reach the venue. I’m so grateful to have somewhere where we can hang out with all of you, he added, dispelling notions of negativity.
The stadium itself has been a point of discussion since its recent opening, particularly concerning crowd management and ease of exit. Live Nation, in collaboration with Rogers, has been actively working on enhancements, including better crowd flow and improved traffic solutions, to address these initial operational hiccups.
With Blackpink scheduled for two shows on July 22 and 23, the stadium’s ability to handle large crowds efficiently will be put to the test once again, building on the lessons learned from Coldplay’s successful run.
